Le Shuttle (Eurotunnel) is a unique shuttle service between France and the UK. Carlisle Support Services are recruiting exceptional, client-driven Freight Safety Operatives to support our client with vehicle and passenger management. The Role:
As a Freight Safety Operative, you’ll play a dual role in supporting both the safety of freight operations and delivering excellent customer service to HGV drivers and passengers. You’ll secure vehicles, conduct safety inspections, and help ensure passengers are informed, safe, and guided throughout their journey. This is a people-facing, hands-on role that’s perfect for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Secure Freight Vehicles: Place and remove wheel chocks for HGVs aboard the freight shuttle.
- Safety Checks: Inspect vehicles and trains before and after tunnel transit to meet strict safety standards.
- Customer Assistance: Greet, direct, and support drivers and passengers with professionalism and a customer-first attitude.
- Communication: Deliver clear instructions and provide reassurance, especially to first-time tunnel users.
- Collaborative Working: Be a reliable team member in a safety-critical, customer-facing operation.
- On-Site Driving: Operate company vehicles within the terminal (where required).
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong focus on customer service and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- A team player with a proactive mindset and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness to handle the practical demands of the role.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and remain calm under pressure.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Previous experience in customer service or logistics is a strong plus.
- A Full UK Driving Licence is desirable.
What You’ll Need to Provide:
- 18+ years old.
- A 5-year checkable employment/education history.
- Proof of right to work in the UK documentation.
- Pass a UK DBS check and overseas check (if applicable).
- Pass a safety-critical medical.
- Successful candidates will need to provide original documentation for detailed screening and vetting processes.
- This could include the following: passport / driving license / utility bill dated in the last 3 months / HMRC letter / original bank statement / original payslip / birth certificate / a valid share code.
